Living on the farm, fall brings on several more activities. The vegetables are less intense (except for maybe the sweet potatoes), and other jobs demand attention.
Haymaking is one of those jobs. This will keep the cattle and horses contented over the winter until the spring arrives again – along with it’s new grasses.
This is what I drove around (and around, and around) the fields today, whilst raking the curing hay into rows that can be then baled. It’s a monotonous, steady job, that requires little thought, but at the same time, loads of mental concentration.
It’s fall. It’s haymaking season.
