You’re probably reading the title, and thinking, what the heck is this?
This, my friends, is something that I’ve been planning for a little while. Something for those of us who enjoy being challenged and enjoy learning new things.
Something that you can have fun with, even if you’re not a literary genius.
I introduce you to… Whiz Kid
The run-down:
This is not weekly, nor is it a meme. Whiz Kid is a trivia challenge that I’ll post at my discretion.
(^^Read: whenever I want to.) π
The “rules” are very simple.
1.) There are five questions below, on a certain topic, or in a certain genre of something. You’ll post what you think is the right “answer”.
2.) The first person with all five “answers” right gets a prize, also explained below.
3.) This is a learning challenge, not a “contest”. You MAY look up the answers if you absolutely have to, but please take a moment to read more about the subject. If you walk away from your computer having learned something, that will make me very happy.
4.) Anyone may enter. π
————————
Gah, done with all that yucky rules stuff. Now on to the fun part.
This Whiz Kid challenge topic is American Literature.
Post, in the comments section, the name of the author of each quote. The questions range from easiest to hardest. (1 being easy and 5 being hard.) The lucky first person to get all the answers right will get a 5 dollar Amazon.com gift code. Pretty easy, huh? 5 for 5. I’m hiding the comments until after it’s over, which will be in three days, on the ninth.
Have at it! Remember, being right is better than being fast.
1.) “On a level spot in the center was a company of odd-looking personages playing ninepins. They were dressed in a quaint, outlandish fashion… Nothing interrupted the stillness of the scene, but the noise of the balls, which, whenever they were rolled, echoed along the mountains like rumbling peals of thunder.”
2.) “And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?” / This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!” / Merely this and nothing more.”
3.) “‘There is an hour to come,’ said he, ‘when all of us shall cast aside our veils. Take it not amiss, beloved friend, if I wear this piece of crape till then.'”
4.) “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what I had to teach…”
5.) “Thou shalt lie down / With patriarchs of the infant world – with kings, / The powerful of the earth – the wise, the good…”
See how many you can get right before you look them up! Enjoy. xoxo
