I was first introduced to Pitango Gelato while on a DC trip with several students and professors from a summer research program at school. Hence, going there always makes me reminiscent of summer evenings and Fringe Festival performances in tiny, sweltering warehouse theaters. (Can’t wait for Fringe this year!)
But, gelato. I love the fact that Pitango uses organic ingredients to make real Italian gelato. As much as I enjoy “fake” gelato, this is the real thing. It’s definitely a treat to visit their shop. They have a variety of flavors (my personal favorites are crema, black tea, and pomegranate). Beware though – they aren’t budget friendly! If you’re on a student’s budget, you probably shouldn’t go here every day.
I’ve only visited the Penn Quarter location, but apparently they have three locations in DC, and several more in the region (including one in Baltimore!). The Penn Quarter location is close to the Lansburgh Shakespeare Theatre and the Woolly Mammoth Theater, which makes it convenient for an evening out. If you’re in the area, definitely check out this gelato shop! You’re in for a treat.
p.s. Not compensated for this post in any way. Pitango has no idea I’m posting this. Why am I posting it then? Because I think you’ll enjoy it! Have fun exploring DC!
