Most of you know that I live on a farm. Not that you would draw any conclusion from my blog title… Some of you know that the farm I live on has been in my family for generations, and that we grow organically.
Definitions: “organic” – of, relating to, yielding, or involving the use of food produced with the use of feed or fertilizer of plant or animal origin without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides. {all due credit to Merriam-Webster.com for the definition}
Definitions: “Monsanto” – the big corporation/giant that produces the genetically engineered seeds that grow into much of what you consume today. I call them “bad guys”, but you may draw your own conclusions from the documentary below.
If you’re at all interested in delving into the agricultural complexities of mega corporations, and are wondering why we grow food organically – “without employment of chemically formulated fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides”, I invite you to watch the documentary below.
*Be warned, it’s almost 2 hours long, and may change the way you think about food in general.*
From Google: “On March 11 a new documentary was aired on French television (ARTE โ French-German cultural tv channel) by French journalist and film maker Marie-Monique Robin, The World According to Monsanto โ A documentary that Americans wonโt ever see. The gigantic biotech corporation Monsanto is threatening to destroy the agricultural biodiversity which has served mankind for thousands of years.”
Real life horror movie? Yes.
Yikes. I didn't have time to watch the entire documentary, but I agree with the message. We have taken to referring to genetically modified products as "genetically mortified"… Thumbs up for organic!
(Thank you for following my blog by the way! ๐
I love organic food. I honestly wish it was more affordable, but, I can definitely understand why it isn't. I try to buy organic as much as possible. I am glad that you posted on this topic =)
Thanks for following my blog!
In my World Issues class this past spring, we watched a documentary called Food Inc. I was thoroughly disturbed by the facts that went on the screen… Monsanto was mentioned.. Simply sad to think all that is going on without us knowing…
