Spring Cleaning – Closet Edition

It’s officially spring!

Now it’s time to upack all those spring and summer clothes you’ve had boxed away all winter. Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house. It’s time to get rid of some of those old clothes you aren’t ever going to wear again.

First things first, immediately toss anything you know you’re not going to wear again as you’re unpacking.

Good.

Now ask yourself, “does it fit?” If the answer is “no, but I swear I’ll lose a few pounds and it will fit again,” then it needs to go. It’s not motivating you from the dark corners of your dresser drawers. If you lose the weight you can buy clothes that fit. For now, just keep things that actually do.

Now look all those clothes you just hung up, convincing yourself you’re definitely going to wear them? Well, maybe. But let’s put that to the test, shall we?

Start by hanging everything up backwards. As you wear them and hang them back up, you can flip the hanger back around. Anything still facing backwards when it’s time to pack up for winter again needs to be donated or sold.

Now, don’t you feel better?
